The uniqueness of God's Spirit

John 14:26...But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The uniqueness of the Holy Spirit depends on His mission on earth; what does the Holy Spirit do?

First, the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin. Jesus said, “When [the Holy Spirit] has come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8). The Holy Spirit convicts us. He shows us that we have sinned. He shows us the Ten Commandments; the Law is the schoolmaster that leads us to Christ (see Galatians 3:24). We look into the mirror of the Ten Commandments, and we see ourselves in that mirror. We say, “O God, I haven’t kept those commandments.” And the Spirit of God says, “No, you haven’t kept them. You’ve broken them, and you are a sinner. You need repentance, and you need faith. You need salvation, and you need reconciliation. You need justification, and you need adoption.”

Second, the Holy Spirit gives new life. The Bible teaches that we are dead in sin. Dead! But Jesus said that we “must be born again” (John 3:7) if we are to see the kingdom of Heaven. The moment that we receive Jesus Christ, we are born again. When we are born again, that is the work of the Holy Spirit (see John 3:3, 5). He gives us new hearts, new attitudes, new dimensions to our lives.

Third, the Holy Spirit empowers us for service. Jesus said, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me” (Acts 1:8).

Fourth, the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit. “Love” (Galatians 5:22). It is supernaturally produced in our hearts. “Joy.” We have a deep river of joy that flows through us—joy that has been produced by the Holy Spirit. It is deep down inside, even through all the problems and difficulties of life. “Peace.” Jesus was out on the Sea of Galilee and the storm was raging, yet He was asleep in the boat (see Matthew 8:24). We have peace in the midst of the storm. “Longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (vv. 22−23). These are ours if we are under the control of God the Holy Spirit. As we go through life under His control, He guides us, He leads us, He directs us.

Fifth, the Holy Spirit magnifies, glorifies, and exalts the Son: “[The Holy Spirit] shall not speak of himself” (John 16:13, KJV). This is where we must be careful. We may hear somebody say, “The Holy Spirit this ... The Holy Spirit that,” yet they never talk about the Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes I become nervous about that, because Scripture says, “[The Holy Spirit] shall not speak of himself.” He will exalt the Lord Jesus Christ, and then Jesus will draw all people unto Himself.

Sixth, the Holy Spirit fills us. Paul wrote: “Do not be drunk with wine ... ; but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18, NKJV). On the day of Pentecost, when the disciples were first filled with the Holy Spirit, people thought that they were drunk (see Acts 2:13). When we come out of church, people should say of us, “He’s so happy!” “She’s so joyous!” We ought to have joy!

For a christian to live a successful life, he or she needs Holy Spirit. Let Holy Spirit take over

Pray this week

* Our Father and our Lord, please give me your Spirit. I want Holy Spirit to take over my live now and forever amen.
