Why Christians Should Guard Their Heart

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

The scribes according to the law forbade the overt act, but Jesus warned against lust in the heart.

Jesus teaches that murder is in one's heart before it is in his hands. It is a progressive attitude that, if not curbed, will eventually express itself in the overt act. Even if it does not erupt into violence it is a destructive attitude nevertheless, both to its subject as well as to its object. Wrong attitudes toward others even make true worship of God impossible.

It is far better to guard the attitudes of one's heart than to regret the bloody acts of one's hands.

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. (Matt 15:11)

Christians are Christ delegates on earth, so Christians should let their light shine so bright among men, that is why you need to be conscious about what comes from your heart. God search the heart not appearance.

You must guard your heart while carrying out religious act.

There is no area in the christian's life so sacred that satan will not endeavor to prevent it to his own evil ends. That is why Jesus warned against such a danger.

Those who did their religious deeds "to be seen" by men Jesus called them "hypocrite" or play actors. (Matt 6:16-18).
