How to possess the gift of the spirit

 Acts 8:20-21 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Gift is something that is given willingly to someone without payment. It is called the gift of the Spirit which means you cannot buy it with money or with any currency whatsoever but you can have it because it is a gift that is embedded in a gift of salvation and the gift of salvation is available to all.

Having the gift of the Spirit as a lot to do with your state of heart; if your heart is right with God then the right gift of the spirit that suits you will be given to you. God is your Father, you can ask Him the exact gift that you want and God is willing to give it to you but your heart must be right because you will be scanned through your heart. "Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god." Psalm 24:3&4

The reason why many keep praying and fasting for the gifts of the spirit but still not get what they wants is because of their state of hearts. Their hearts is far from God and the motive by which they for the gift was not in accordance with the will of God.

Your heart must be right, if you want to journey with God. Our Lord Jesus Christ was instructing the disciples on what makes people unfit to worship God; He said, "your heart must be right if you want to worship or journey with God. “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them." Matthew 15:17&18

God is willing to bless you with all good things but your heart must be right.
